Compassionate Senior Care in Metairie, LA

I picked this facility because it was in a small town and has a small town feel. This is important to me because I know my mom is getting the love and attention she deserves. The staff is somewhat different , but they have an excellent staff now! The facility is very warm, clean and loving. I know my mother is being very well taken care of.

The nurses, only a very few, were sarcastic and acted like you were beneath them. One nurse got mad because my 93 year old mother soiled her bed two nights in a row. She told my mother that all the workers had kids and they were going to get sick. Was my mother the only person that this happened to? Further, they rarely came in a timely manner when she needed to go to the bathroom. They woke her up at 6 in the morning only to sit at the table for her meals for one hour and then one hour to get her back to her.

We believe those who live well, are well. Colonial Oaks Guest Care is a senior living provider in Bossier City, Louisiana that offers residents Nursing Homes. I would definitely recommend Colonial Oaks Guest Care. We haven't had any negative feedback from my father at all.

The staff person came over at the sound of the alarm, and helped her. Her hip healed over time, so the gadget worked for her. The building looks safe during a hurricane. Being next door to East Jefferson Hospital means they're on a power grid that will be the first to be attended to if the electric lines go down.

Independent Living

I didn't get very far, because they were booked. I have since learned that they are the very best place. The rehab area might be a 3, but everything else seemed to be at least a 4.

There is one day aid that is very sarcastic and told my mother she needed to stay there instead of going home with me. Colonial was a disappointment on so many level. The physical therapy, people were great, the hair dresser was great, the event co -ordinator was good.

I told them my mom did not eat fried food or red meat so they totally ignore this . I had to bring food twice a day and find my mom over drugged and sitting in a wheel chair dripping with urine and cold because they would not offer her a blanket. I visit this facility a number of times through the year to bring or pickup a relative volunteer who has worked there for a number of years.

My Mom started out in Skilled Nursing after falling and breaking several things. We were so satisfied with Colonial Oaks that we wanted her to become a resident. She was able to get in and after settling down, not without some anxiety she is now very content. She loves her new friends n the employees. My mom is very sweet n easy going n in return that is how she is treated. She loves playing bingo n getting her hair done every Tuesday.

They are very short staffed and hire temps that don’t get to know the patients. We found our mother in the floor, naked and covered in vomit. She had been hollering for help, but the call light was broken.

As a matter of fact, she loved their food and everything. The people working there were very thoughtful, and very intensive with the people and very caring. It was very clean, and it doesn't smell like the average nursing home. It was more like a little hotel efficiency thing. They could have the food either in their room or in the cafeteria, which ever they would prefer. Colonial Oaks has become the most awful place to send your loved ones.

My experience with this facility is favorable. My relative loves working with the patients, and visiting them. There are always a fair share of them enjoying the cool weather in the courtyard on grounds, and the staff is always more than willing to be helpful and efficient in facilitating requests. The staff organizes events and activities for the patients, and sees to their nourishment and comfort. My mother was in skilled nursing for five weeks. We chose Colonial because it was right behind the hopital and came highly recommended.

Sometimes, there's paper and stuff on the floor, and they're understaffed. My mother cannot do things for herself and we're waiting right now. Sometimes you have to wait 45 minutes to get some help to get her changed. The food is pretty good, and she enjoys it.

A True Rental Community.

They have Bingo and listen to music and she enjoys that. She had to go to the hospital and Colonial Oaks is right behind it, so it's very close, and that is a big decision factor. Everyone appreciates a beautiful setting, but those who choose Colonial Oaks get the best chance for a successful recovery.

There was one time that I got the chance to talk to her because he wasn’t getting any response when he calls. The bathroom is spacious, but the rooms could be a little larger because they accommodate 2 people. My Aunt was in Colonial Oaks only two months.

The food is cold and at times not even edible. Prior to the changes the meals were excellent. Corporate just looks at the bottom num er and doesn’t care about the residents.

And another time, she tried to get up -- she shouldn't be getting up because she has fallen and hit her head a couple of times -- and they sent her to the hospital. I don't know if that is normal with somebody with dementia or not. She is in a room with two other people. As far as I know, yes, I would recommend it. From the incredible high moments to those that challenge us, we believe that each day is a gift…and one to be celebrated.
